Seattle Seahawks defensive end Michael Bennett made his reasons to protest the national anthem pretty clear, but on Wednesday morning he made those reasons even more clear, taking to Twitter to tell the story of his encounter with the Las Vegas Police department after the Floyd Mayweather and Conor McGregor fight.

Colin Kaepernick, who began his protest with the national anthem one year ago, tweeted in support of Bennett after reading his story:

Bennett’s coach Pete Carroll, who has previously said he supports Bennett’s protest, and many other athletes responded to Bennett’s message:

Bennett’s brother, Green Bay Packers tight end Martellus Bennett posted his brother’s letter on Instagram stating how sad he was at the thought of losing Michael.

Philadelphia Eagles running back LeGarrette Blount regramed Martellus’ post with a message of his own.

Blount’s teammate, Eagles safety Malcom Jenkins, is also with Bennett.

Michael Bennett’s teammate Justin Britt also hared his thoughts.

The executive director of the NFL Players Association DeMaurice Smith wanted to share his feelings on social injustice.

Even musician and actor Common responded to Bennett’s letter.
