Colin Kaepernick joins Medium's board of directors, will work on content focused on race and civil rights

Colin Kaepernick is still waiting on a job in the NFL, but he’s got something to keep him busy in the meantime. Kaepernick will join Medium’s board of directors.

Kaepernick will create content focused on race and civil rights.

Medium’s chief executive Ev Williams confirmed the news to TechCrunch, saying Medium has been talking to Kaepernick for quite some time.

“We’ve been in talks with Colin for some time, and we are honored to be electing him to join our board,” said Williams, in a statement. “Colin’s voice and actions have led the discussion on racial justice, and the world is finally catching up to him.”

Kaepernick, 32, said he was “excited” to join Medium. Medium is an online platform that allows users to publish content. Its site says “our sole purpose is to help you find compelling ideas, knowledge and perspectives.”

The news shouldn’t prevent Kaepernick from heading back to the NFL. Kaepernick can presumably play quarterback and sit on Medium’s board of directors at the same time.

Whether that will happen remains to be seen. NFL commissioner Roger Goodell and executive Troy Vincent have thrown their support behind Kaepernick, but the quarterback has remained silent on the NFL’s sudden turnaround.

That’s not to say Kaepernick no longer wants a job in the NFL. He may be approaching the situation with caution considering how the NFL has treated Kaepernick the past couple seasons.
