Cole Sprouse is ready to open up about his breakup from ex Lili Reinhart and what it was like working together on "Riverdale" after their split.

The two have starred on the CW show since 2017 and remaining colleagues has been "really hard for both of us," Sprouse said on Tuesday's episode of the "Call Her Daddy" podcast.

"It was hard to suspend all the way we felt about each other and it didn’t afford us the luxury of distance to really overcome that. I know we both did quite a bit of damage to each other," he shared. "We’re good friends now, which is awesome."

Sprouse and Reinhart were in an on-and-off relationship for three years before splitting in January 2020. The pair did not immediately announce their breakup. In August 2020, Sprouse shared on Instagram that they "separated in January of this year, deciding to more permanently split in March."

On the "Call Her Daddy" episode, Sprouse said they "leaned on each other" to navigate the public split and breakup, which is why they "didn't make a big deal" about quickly announcing it.

"I was photographed — as a single man, dating other women — and I think it caused people to think there was something dubious going on," he said. "In hindsight, I probably should have said something almost right away (but) I didn’t think the public needed to be afforded the luxury of my own heartbreak."

Public pressure was also one of the reasons the couple lasted as long as they did, the "Moonshot" actor said. "I think if I had loved myself a little more, I probably would have left (the relationship) a little earlier," he explained. "I just felt like I had to take care of a lot of people around me, which was not good for me. I probably should have exercised a bit more selfishness in that situation."

Cole Sprouse says his mom lost custody of him, twin Dylan due to addiction

In addition to discussing Sprouse's relationship with Reinhart, "Call Her Daddy" host Alex Cooper dove deep into the child star's family life.

Sprouse shared that he only stopped helping his family with bills "three years ago," but feels indebted to his father Matthew Sprouse who "put a lot of his life on hold in order to ensure that my brother (Dylan) and I were OK. … It's just my father, my brother and I in our family."

The "Riverdale" star said he has no relationship with his mom. "In truth, she lost her mind," he said. "I think it was the consequence of some alchemy of addiction and mental instability and it's probably the greatest wound in my life. It's also the greatest driving force for my continuing in this industry."

"I miss her a lot. She was an incredibly beautiful and artistic woman," he added.

When Sprouse and his twin Dylan Sprouse were 10 years old "custody was stripped from my mother and given to my father," Sprouse said, explaining that their mother's addiction and pressure to perform as child stars played a factor.

Booking Disney Channel's "The Suite Life of Zack & Cody" became "life-saving" for the Sprouse twins because it gave them "stability" after a tumultuous custody battle, he shared.
