A Cole and Dylan Sprouse On-Screen Reunion Is 'Not off the Table' — but They Don't Want to Be a 'Circus Act'

"It's just about finding something that's cool and interesting," the former 'Riverdale' said of finding the right twin-themed project

More than a decade has passed since Cole and Dylan Sprouse costarred in the same project, but they may be open for another on-screen twinning moment.

Cole and Dylan, both 31, have discussed the possibility of working together on another film or TV show — but it would have to be the right kind of twin-themed project, the Lisa Frankenstein star told Men’s Health.

When asked if the brothers have discussed working on something together, Cole responded, “Yeah, we actually have.”

“It’s not off the table!” he added of reuniting on-screen with his Beautiful Disaster star broth, with whom he starred on Disney Channel’s The Suite Life of Zack and Cody from 2005 to 2008 and its sequel series On Deck from 2008 to 2011.

The Riverdale alum explained that it ultimately comes down to finding a project that doesn’t feel gimmicky. “A lot of the stuff that's twin-y is pretty lame,” he noted. “The twin thing can become a circus act if it's not done well. And honestly, most of the time when it is done well, it's usually one actor trying to show off by playing both twins.”

He continued, “So it's just about finding something that's cool and interesting and that actually plays with the twin idea a little deeper than, like, ‘What if you said something at the same time?’”

Dylan made it clear he and his twin are on the same (script) page in a recent interview. "I mean the thing is there's just not many opportunities for good twin roles that aren't taken by a single actor trying their hand at playing two people," he E! News. "So I feel like if we did do something together, we would have to make it, which is definitely not off the table."

The actor added that the two had "talked" about collaborating on an original idea. "We want to make sure that it's really good. I think there's an expectation now that's been so many years, so if we want to make it really tight."

Since The Suite Life on Deck went off the air in 2011, the Sprouses have not appear together on screen. At the time, the two stepped away from acting to study at New York University. Shortly after graduating, Cole returned to entertainment with a starring role on The CW’s Riverdale, while Dylan opened a meadery in Brooklyn and eventually took on smaller projects.

The two were previously child stars since their infancy — their first job being a shared role on the sitcom Grace Under Fire. The former Disney Channel stars then notably both played Ross Gellar’s son Ben on Friends, appeared in Big Daddy opposite Adam Sandler and eventually became Disney Channel staples as Zack and Cody Martin, the mischievous twin brothers living with their lounge singer mother (Kim Rhodes) in the fictional Tipton Hotel.

In a recent interview with PEOPLE, Five Feet Apart star Cole reflected on the enduring impact of The Suite Life and what it means to him, Dylan and their castmates still today.

He shared that he and his co-stars, which also included Ashley Tisdale, Brenda Song and Phill Lewis, “never anticipated that it would've been such an important part of so many people's childhoods.”

“It's really beautiful to see that people still have such a wonderful and nostalgic space still carved out for children's programming and our show,” Sprouse said, noting how viewers of all ages still show their appreciation for the show online and in-person.

The actor added that it’s especially moving to see the love Suite Life specifically has received, considering what a significant part of his and Dylan’s childhood it was. The Moonshot star said, “Those parts of our childhoods are really special and golden. And it’s nice to see that we still have that space with people.”
