A cold front could bring freezing precipitation to South Texas. Here's what to expect
A strong cold front moving through the area this week could bring a wintry mix of rain, sleet and freezing rain to South Texas.
The cold front will push through the region Wednesday night, dropping temperatures by 30 degrees on Thursday for a low of 45 and a high of 55 with scattered showers that could become freezing precipitation Friday morning, according to the National Weather Service in Corpus Christi.
Wednesday will be sunny with a high near 82. As the cold front moves through the area, temperatures will drop to around 41 that night.
There will be a chance of showers and thunderstorms Thursday morning and rain will be likely after noon. The high will be around 49. That night, it will likely rain before midnight, with freezing rain and sleet possible. The low will be near 31.
"A lot can change before then, but even small amounts of freezing precipitation can have a big impact on area roadways, especially during the Friday morning commute," the National Weather Service said on Facebook.
Rain chances will continue on Friday, with a high near 47, with freezing rain and sleet before 9 a.m. Showers could continue until noon. Wind chills on Friday morning could be as low as 23 in Corpus Christi. Friday night's low will be around 35.
There's a 20% chance of showers on Saturday and Sunday. The area will be mostly cloudy with highs in the upper 50s and lows in the 40s.
