Colbert Tests CBS Censors to Mock Trump’s ‘Tim Apple’ Excuse

Stephen Colbert thinks Donald Trump’s excuse for apparently calling Apple CEO Tim Cook by the wrong name is “appleing insane,” as he explained on Monday’s “Late Show.”

Last Wednesday, Trump accidentally called Cook “Tim Apple.” A lot of people had some fun at Trump’s expense. Then Axios reported that in a closed-door meeting on Friday, Trump told a group of Republican donors that he actually said “Tim Cook Apple” very quickly, “and the ‘Cook’ part of the sentence was soft. But all you heard from the ‘fake news,’ he said, was ‘Tim Apple.'”

Colbert didn’t find that plausible.

“Mr. President, words don’t just disappear from the middle of sentences,” he said. “Unless it’s CBS bleeping me when I say excuses like this are [bleep] insane.”

“Did I say ‘appleing insane’?” Colbert joked.

He’s kidding but we’ll admit that swear is gonna come in really handy at work.
