Colbert Lays Into Les Moonves After ‘Ronan Farrow Double-Dip’ on ‘The Late Show’

Stephen Colbert spoke frankly about newly-ousted CBS CEO Les Moonves at the top of Monday’s episode of the network’s “The Late Show.”

The episode kicked off with a cold open gag in which a graphic regretted that “Tonight’s episode of ‘Undercover Boss,’ starring Leslie Moonves, will not be shown.” According to the graphic, the episode was “sealed into a stainless steel container” and then shot “into the heart of the sun. We regret the error.”

Immediately after, Colbert began his monologue, which started with his directly addressing the situation with Moonves, who stepped down on Sunday after the publication of a New Yorker article by Ronan Farrow, in which six more women accused him of sexual misconduct. The article was Farrow’s second detailing accusations of sexual misconduct against Moonves, following one published Aug. 6.

“You might have heard the head of this network, Leslie Moonves, was forced to step down yesterday… after a second Ronan Farrow expose,” Colbert said. “It’s never a good sign when you’re the subject of a Ronan Farrow double-dip.”

After describing one of the many incidents described in the story, Colbert added, “The article is extremely disturbing, and I’m not surprised that’s it.”

“Moonves is gone,” Colbert added, “until he shows up for a set at the Comedy Cellar,” a direct reference to Louis C.K.’s surprise set at the New York City comedy club in August.
