It’s seems like everyone is talking about Stephen Colbert’s Donald Trump “cock holster” joke … except Stephen Colbert.
The “Late Show” host artfully dodged the matter on Tuesday’s episode by instead talking about Hillary Clinton’s reflection on why she lost the presidential election and her claim it was because of WikiLeaks.
“Guess who’s back?” he asked. “Hillary Clinton. Just this afternoon she emerged from the woods here in New York City,” Colbert said, playing a clip from her sitdown with CNN’s Christiane Amanpour at a Women for Women International event in New York.
“Asking if Hillary Clinton thinks sexism exists is like asking Serena Williams if she’s heard of this tennis thing,” Colbert said.
He went on to compare Trump to Stephen King because he “makes things up” … but still made no mention of Monday night’s comment.
He did have a message for Trump at least, when joking about the president’s 2020 campaign ad: “No new elections until you’ve finished your wars.”
He also aired a new video mashup taking Trump’s quotes out of context.
Colbert sparked an outcry Monday by joking that President Trump’s mouth would make a good “cock holster” for Russian leader Vladimir Putin, which many people deemed homophobic and offensive.
On Tuesday night, Colbert didn’t shy away from joking about Trump and Putin again, saying that the Russian was the voice of restraint over Trump’s tweets.
Vox senior reporter German Lopez wrote: “In a setting in which Colbert is deliberately trying to find a way to insult Trump, it’s telling that he resorts to suggesting that Trump is engaging in sexual acts with another man. The suggestion is that the worst thing that could happen for these men is if they engaged in homosexual acts together, as if that devalues them as men or emasculates them.”
The hashtag #FireColbert trended on Twitter, as many conservatives called for CBS to ditch the late-night host.
“Colbert’s homophobic rant was disgusting and we won’t tolerate this anti-LGBTQ behavior,” one Twitter user wrote.
“Liberals ruin the careers of conservatives all the time, so the #FireColbert campaign is just giving libs a taste of their own medicine,” wrote another.
A representative for the “Late Show” did not immediately respond to TheWrap’s request for comment.
