Stephen Colbert on George Papadopoulos’ Guilty Plea: ‘You Can’t Do That – That’s Don Jr’s Job’ (Video)

Stephen Colbert laid into George Papadopoulos in his opening monologue Monday night, joking that the former Trump campaign adviser-turned government witness was basically arrested for doing “Don Jr.’s job.”

It was revealed Monday, along with the 12-count indictments of former Trump campaign chairman Paul Manafort and his associate Rick Gates, that Papadopoulos was arrested in July as part of the investigation led by Robert Mueller into possible collusion between the Trump campaign and Russia.

Papadopoulos secretly pleaded guilty three weeks ago to lying to FBI agents and after his arrest became a “proactive cooperator.”

“While working for President Trump’s campaign, he repeatedly tried to arrange a meeting between campaign and Russian government officials,” said Colbert. “You can’t do that. That’s Don Jr.’s job!”

The CBS late-night host also talked about White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders, who on Monday insisted that “the real collusion scandal, as we’ve said several times before, has everything to do with the Clinton campaign, Fusion GPS, and Russia,” and nothing to do with Trump.

“My God, of course! Hillary Clinton colluded with Russia to lose the election,” quipped Colbert. “But we never saw it because we were playing checkers, and she was playing 3-dimensional Lose The Election.”
