Stephen Colbert has brought the TV ratings crown back to CBS after more than two decades. “The Late Show” host scored the first season-long win among adults 18-49 in 24 years, just barely edging Jimmy Fallon’s “Tonight Show” on NBC.“Jimmy Kimmel Live” on ABC finished third in the key demo, as well as in total viewers.In terms of total viewersy, Colbert separated himself by Fallon by a pretty wide margin, claiming his third-straight victory there. Fallon’s drop was the harshest at 22%, while Jimmy Kimmel fell by 18%. Colbert’s key-demo average slipped just 12% year over year.Total Viewers“Late Show”: 3.766 million “Tonight Show”: 2.429 million “Jimmy Kimmel Live”: 2.035 million In total viewers, Kimmel fell the most on a percentage basis, dropping 10% versus the 2017-18 season. Stephen Colbert had a heartfelt, totally-not-sarcastic apology for Republicans on Monday’s episode of “The Late Show” — OK, that’s not true, but he did admit he was wrong about exactly one thing, after a GOP congressman said Donald Trump has done “impeachable” things.
During his opening monologue, Colbert brought up Justin Amash, a Michigan congressman who, after reading the Mueller report, said last weekend that Trump “has engaged in impeachable conduct.”
“So with that, I would like to offer the Republican Party this apology,” Colbert said. “Now, I know I give the GOP a hard time, and often imply that you’re a spineless group of self-interested toadies who would rather see the country destroyed then stand up to an out of control, narcissistic toddler.”
“I was wrong,” Colbert continued. “About one of you. One.”
Colbert also mocked reports that said Amash’s statement makes calls to impeach Trump “bipartisan.”
“Well. Uh. Yeah, technically,” Colbert joked. “Like, technically in high school once we had a girl at our ‘Dungeons & Dragons’ party, but does it mean it was co-ed? No guys, I swear, there were a lot of girl there.
