Coco Jones is officially a Grammy winner. The 26-year-old took home her first win at the 2024 Grammys for Best R&B Performance with “ICU.”

The win was part of the non-televised Premier Ceremony, robbing Jones of her moment to give a proper acceptance speech because she was still prepping for the main show and walking the red carpet. Later in the evening, she came backstage to discuss her win with press.

Jones explained that this moment in her career can be described as a dream come true. “It feels like all of the uncertainty can really be answered by God’s timing for you. I’ve been pursuing this since I was nine, and to reap the benefits at this time makes way more sense than I could ever imagine.”

An old proverb reads, “If you wanna make the Lord laugh, tell him what you’ve got planned” and for the Bel-Air star, she told Teen Vogue back in November that she was hesitant to release “ICU” initially because she thought “it aged” her. Now, that song is the one that’s earned her a Grammy.

So, VIBE asked her to share some wisdom to her past self who couldn’t predict the success of the ballad.

“I would say that the voice that got you in these doors as a nine-year-old, the soul that you learned how to channel through your mom’s favorite songs that she taught you to sing at auditions is what has always stood the test of time and don’t be afraid to be authentically what has stood the test of time,” she said with a smile.

Admittedly, Jones is still soaking in her win. “It’s just too surreal to really unpack right here on this stage,” she shared, but did reveal that once she gets a private moment, she can finally let those feelings out.
