It’s a new day in tennis! American Coco Gauff won her first Grand Slam championship in a heartstopping match on Saturday evening, Sept. 9, defeating Belarusian Aryna Sabalenka to win the 2023 U.S. Open in New York City.

At 19 years old, Gauff is only the third woman from the United States to win a U.S. Open singles title as a teenager and the last teen to win the U.S. Open was Serena Williams at age 17 in 1999. In addition, Gauff is the first American to win the Grand Slam event since Sloane Stephens did it in 2017. Gauff’s win was impressive to say the least, and she did so in style, capturing the title in her New Balance Coco CG1 signature sneakers.
