Coalition of Asian Pacifics in Entertainment Selects 2024 New Writers Fellowship Class (EXCLUSIVE)
The Coalition of Asian Pacifics in Entertainment has selected its latest class for its New Writers Fellowship, which trains emerging writers to succeed in Hollywood.
The fellowship entails in-person and virtual masterclasses, panels, workshops, and table reads. The 2024 class of television writers were paired up with high-level writing mentors to revise their scripts and worked with creative executive mentors for pitch workshops. Program speakers included writers Charles Yu (“Interior Chinatown”), Angela Kang (“The Walking Dead”), Chris Collins (“Sons of Anarchy,” “John Wick Chapter 3”), literary managers Peter McHugh (Gotham Group), Daniel Vang (3 Arts), Vivek Kolli (Link Entertainment), executives Nathan Kitada (senior creative executive, Tentpole and Universe Development, Amazon Studios) and more.

Featuring top industry writers, producers, agents and executives, the Fellowship was co-founded and is co-chaired by Leo Chu, showrunner and executive producer for “Ultra Violet” and “Black Scorpion,” and Steve Tao, veteran TV executive and producer previously at The CW, ABC and Bad Robot.
“I am very proud of this class. The Fellows are entering the business during unprecedented uncertainty, but their talent, eagerness to work, and desire to succeed is admirable and undeniable,” Tao said. “We need this program more than ever to refresh the writing pipeline.”
The 2024 class includes Alli Masloske (mentored by “The 100” showrunner Georgia Lee), Ananya Hegde (mentored by “Gentefied” showrunner Monica Macer), Arun Miriyala (mentored by “3 Body Problem” co-showrunner Alex Woo), Belinda Huijuan Tang (mentored by “One Piece” showrunner Steve Maeda), Brett Morrow (mentored by “American Horror Story” and “The X-Files” executive producer James Wong), Samantha Lee (mentored by “Grey’s Anatomy” co-executive producer Julie Wong) and Tara Aquino (mentored by “Loot” co-executive producer Vicky Luu).
The fellowship is made possible with support from Netflix, Sony Pictures Entertainment, The Walt Disney Company, NBCUniversal, Paramount+, Amazon Studios MGM, Los Angeles County Arts & Culture, Emerson College Los Angeles, The Black List, Coverfly and Final Draft.
The fellowship is one of CAPE’s talent development programs alongside the CAPE Leaders Fellowship, the CAPE Animation Directors Accelerator, the CAPE Emerging Executives Committee, the CAPE Showrunners Incubator and the Julia S. Gouw Short Film Challenge for Women & Non-Binary Filmmakers (with Janet Yang Productions).
