The grounds of the Coachella Valley History Museum were the setting for the 11th annual Día de los Muertos celebration and fundraiser, held Nov. 4.

The event, an annual Mexican tradition that began more than 3,000 years ago, honors deceased loved ones by allowing spirits to reconnect with the living. The celebration, embraced by people around the world, celebrates the notion that death is not an end but a continuation of life.

To pay tribute, colorful altars were erected throughout the museum’s campus to welcome and honor the spirits of the deceased.
