The Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival and Stagecoach Festival have been canceled for the second year in a row due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Riverside County health officials announced Friday that the sister festivals, both of which had been set for April in Indio, Calif., will no longer take place "as a result of the worldwide epidemic of COVID-19 disease."

The 2021 festivals, organized by Goldenvoice, were supposed to be something of a redo after last year's scrapped events. A representative for Goldenvoice did not immediately respond to request for comment.

Riverside County public health officer Dr. Cameron Kaiser signed the order canceling the festivals, citing the more than 1 million cases of COVID-19 worldwide and over 2 million deaths so far. "This Order is issued based on concerns of a fall resurgence of COVID-19 both within the County of Riverside and worldwide, scientific evidence regarding the most effective approach to slow transmission of communicable diseases generally and COVID-19 specifically, and best practices as currently known and available to protect the public from the risk of spread or exposure to COVID-19," the order reads.

The 2020 Coachella and Stagecoach festivals were previously postponed to October 2020, before both were eventually pushed to all the way to April 2021, which now won't happen. The lineup for Coachella 2020 featured headliners Rage Against the Machine, Travis Scott, and Frank Ocean. Other acts included Megan Thee Stallion, Carly Rae Jepsen, and Lana Del Rey. Stagecoach, also held at the Empire Polo Club grounds one week after the second Coachella weekend, featured headliners Thomas Rhett, Carrie Underwood, and Eric Church.
