You want things to do? November is ready to deliver, with the Jacksonville Fair, Porchfest in Springfield, a Taylor Swift laser dance party, visits by Coach K and Captain Kirk, a pro surf tournament and concerts by Dane Cook, Wynton Marsalis, Shaun Cassidy, Black Kids, a bunch of mummies and a band of mechanical teddy bears — and that's not even counting the beginning of the holiday season.
We included a few of the really big holiday happenings (Nights of Lights in St. Augustine, Jacksonville's Lighted Boat Parade) because you really don't want to miss them, but keep an eye out for a more detailed calendar of holiday events.
Signature events
Greater Jacksonville Agricultural Fair
Nov. 2-12 at the Jacksonville Fairgrounds
They keep saying they want to relocate the fairgrounds but then keep having the fair at the old one. Latest estimate for the move is 2025 but for now the fair is on in the shadow of EverBank Stadium, complete with rides and livestock contests and racing pigs, live music and funnel cakes. Porchfest
Nov. 4 in Springfield
Nineteen local and regional musicians will perform free shows from the front porches of historic homes in an area of Springfield bound by Main, Perry, 8th and 10th streets. They’ll also have food trucks, an arts market and craft beer. Info: jacksonvilleporchfest.org
Veterans Day Parade
Nov. 11 in downtown Jacksonville
A parade to salute America’s military kicks off at 11:01 a.m. with veterans groups, marching bands and floats winding through downtown. Info: specialevents.coj.net
Nights of Lights
Nov. 18-Jan. 31 in St. Augustine
Three million lights decorate St. Augustine’s historic district for the holiday celebration that has been described as one of the most dazzling in the world. There are dozens of tours and events connected with Nights of Lights, starting with LIght Up Night on Nov. 18. Info: visitstaugustine.com
Dazzling Nights
Nov. 24-Dec. 29 at the Jacksonville Arboretum & Botanical Gardens
More than a million holiday lights will twinkle in the forests of the arboretum for the third holiday season. They’ll also have a 40-foot snowglobe perfect for snowball fights, neon flowers, a laser-beam forest and a nightly “snowfall.” Info: dazzlingjax.com

Nov. 25 on the St. Johns River in downtown Jacksonville

The historic theater in San Marco is digging out some “big” movies for a special run.
