How CNN’s S.E. Cupp Feels About Corey Lewandowski’s Hiring

CNN commentator S.E. Cupp was measured when asked about new colleague and former Trump campaign manager Corey Lewandowski.

“CNN smartly hired Corey because he knows Trump,” Cupp told TheWrap. “I trust our viewers will make up their own minds about his performance.”

It’s hardly a ringing endorsement for the man whom Cupp and 15 other prominent female reporters petitioned Donald Trump to fire back in March after the former lobbyist grabbed former Breitbart reporter Michelle Fields at a Trump rally.

The letter asked Trump to respond to Lewandowski’s “inexcusable, unprofessional” behavior. It took three months, but Trump fired Lewandowski on Monday and he’s now Cupp’s coworker.

CNN’s Mary Katherine Ham also signed the letter, but did not immediately respond to TheWrap’s request for comment.

Lewandowski was hired by CNN on Thursday, only three days after he was fired by Trump. Almost immediately after his firing, he appeared in a lengthy interview with the network’s Dana Bash. He told Bash that he didn’t know why he was let go, but Trump’s children are reportedly at least partially responsible for the decision.
