CNN Anchor Skeptical of Kavanaugh ‘Gang Rape’ Accusation: ‘They Don’t Make Sense to Me’
CNN anchor Alisyn Camerota said she was skeptical of Julie Swetnick, the latest woman to come forward against Brett Kavanaugh, telling Swetnick’s attorney Michael Avenatti that she found many of her most salacious allegations hard to believe.
“Michael, the claims your client makes are draw-dropping, and some of them really frankly strain credulity,” said Camerota on “New Day” Thursday. “They don’t make sense to me.”
Camerota took a skeptical tone with Avenatti from the gate, repeating many of the Swetnick accusations and asking bluntly why she would continue to go to parties where she said drugging and gang raping were a regular occurrence.
“How is any of this possible? How is it possible that if she saw any of these things she would continue to go to house parties like this?” she pressed. “Why would she ever go back. Why would she go to 10 of those house parties?”

Avenatti insisted his client was “100 percent credible” and that he would not put his own reputation on the line if he wasn’t sure.
“Anybody that has seen my track record over the last several months knows I don’t traffic in rumor and nonsense,” he said. “We are encouraging the FBI to immediately get involved and sit down with my client for an interview.”
The lawyer also offered that his client had been unaware of the extent of the alleged gang rape at the time.
“She did not understand at the time the magnitude of what was transpiring in those back bedrooms until she was ultimately gang raped and drugged,” he said. “A lot of this would be substantiated if there was an investigation and that’s what we want.”

Swetnick also talked about the past on-camera on Thursday telling “The Circus” host John Heilemann that she came forward because she didn’t want to see Kavanaugh confirmed.
“Brett Kavanaugh is going for a seat where he’s going to have that seat on the Supreme Court for the rest of his life,” she said. “If he’s going to have that seat legitimately, all of these things should be investigated because from what I experienced firsthand, I don’t think he belongs on the Supreme Court.”
The judge has categorically denied all of the allegations against him.
Both Kavanaugh and another accuser, Christine Blasey Ford, are expected to testify before the Senate Judiciary Committee on Thursday.
