Democratic House Majority Whip James Clyburn responded to Mitch Connell's comments from Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell that the GOP is focused on standing up and stopping President Joe Biden's administration.

"One hundred percent of my focus is on standing up to this administration," McConnell said on Sunday after CNN "State of the Union" host Jake Tapper played a clip of his recent remarks to reporters. The statement casted doubt on hopes for bipartisanship under Biden's administration and reignited calls to end the filibuster.

The Republican part, Clyburn said, "is losing its way."

"Mitch McConnell has some personal animus toward Democrats that ought not to be," the 80-year-old Congressman from South Carolina added.

Clyburn continued: "We are one nation, under God indivisible with liberty and justice for all. Let's operate like that. This Republican Party is losing its way on all fronts and Mitch McConnell is contributing to that in a big way."

In the interview, Clyburn said that the Republican party today is showing "dishonor to the people who made it possible."

His remarks come as Rep. Liz Cheney faces backlash for criticizing former President Donald Trump and as Republicans are working to replace her leadership position in the House.
