Clone Wars creator Dave Filoni shares hopeful note about Ahsoka after Rise of Skywalker

There’s a new hope for Ahsoka Tano after Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker.
After the final few sequences in the last installment to the Skywalker Saga, fans of the Clone Wars animated series feared it teased the death of fan-favorite character Ahsoka, Anakin Skywalker’s former Jedi apprentice in the show from co-creator Dave Filoni. But Filoni himself offered a hopeful message that seems to tease her fate.
The climactic battle between Rey (Daisy Ridley) and Ben Solo (Adam Driver) against Palpatine (Ian McDiarmid) on Exogol in The Rise of Skywalker leaves Ben hurled over the side of a ledge and Rey lying weakened on the ground. She then speaks through the Force, “Be with me,” and the presence of famous Jedi throughout the film saga resound in her head.
Among the chorus of Obi-Wan Kenobi, Yoda, Mace Windu, Luke Skywalker, and others came a female voice saying simply, “Rey!” The film’s end-credits listed Ashley Eckstein, the voice actress behind Ahsoka in The Clone Wars, as among those reprising characters. But with the other Jedi voices in this Rey scene belonging to those who have already passed, many fans speculated this meant Ahsoka, too, had died at some point not shown yet in the Clone Wars or Star Wars Rebels series.
“Was thinking of all of you this fine morning, Happy Holidays!” Filoni broadcast out to his social media pages on Christmas Day. The message contained an illustration of Ahsoka standing next to Gandalf from The Lord of the Rings. The aging wizard from Middle-earth says to the Force fighter, “People thought I was dead, too. Look how that turned out…”

The last time we saw Ahsoka in Star Wars Rebels—also developed by Filoni—which saw her joining Sabine Wren in search of Ezra Bridger. Filoni’s message isn’t definitive, but it hints that her journey isn’t over.
As announced in 2018, The Clone Wars will return with a sixth season consisting of 12 new episodes. Disney+ also has The Mandalorian, Lucasfilm’s first live-action Star Wars series, which takes place after the events of Return of the Jedi. Filoni developed the series with showrunner Jon Favreau, and Matt Lanter, who voiced Anakin in The Clone Wars, appeared as a New Republic officer in episode 6. Could Ahsoka pop up in this space in live-action form? Let’s meditate on this.
