Cleaners From Venus’ Martin Newell Gets New Documentary

Martin Newell, leader of the influential UK lo-fi pop project Cleaners From Venus, is the subject of the forthcoming documentary The Jangling Man. The film is directed and produced by James Sharp and co-produced and edited by Jim Larson, and it’s set to feature interviews with Jessica Pratt, Mac DeMarco, XTC’s Dave Gregory, DIIV’s Zachary Cole Smith, Cherry Red’s Iain McNay, Wild Nothing’s Jack Tatum, and more. It will be released by Captured Tracks, Sharp Film, and Larson Media. Check out the trailer below.

In a press release, Martin Newell wrote, “A film? About me? I’ve often wondered why that camera crew kept popping up everywhere. How marvelous! Can’t wait to see it.”

The Jangling Man is currently being financed on Kickstarter. In addition to the film, Captured Tracks will be issuing a vinyl release of 1995 The Off-White Album. The pre-order is available now as a reward on Kickstarter, along with limited merch and other exclusive releases.
