Classic movie at Bob Hope Theatre, Stockton Lantern Festival, more January events

The new year is finally here and with a new year comes new things to do. Start the year strong by attending one of these fun Stockton events in January.

From a night at the Haggin Museum to the Stockton Lanter Festival Sensory Friendly Night or a classic movie at the Bob Hope Theatre. Here are 10 things to do this month in town.

Every first and third Thursday of the month there are special guests or live music at the Haggin Museum. The first Thursday of the year is not the exception. On Jan. 4 there will be live music with Goh Kurosawa, a Japanese musician from Los Angeles. An evening hosted by the Junior Women’s Group. At 6:30 p.m. a glass of wine will be served before the program. The program starts at 7 p.m. The museum and store close at 9 p.m. There is limited seating.

General admission tickets are $8 for adults, $7 for seniors and military, $5 for youth (10 years old to 17 years old) and students with ID. Members of the museum and children under 10 years old enter for free.

Stockton Lantern Festival & Sensory Friendly Night

The Stockton Lantern Festival continues in downtown Stockton through January 14. The Stockton Ballpark transformed into Koda's Journey to the Magic Forest with over 20,000 LED lights.

On Monday, Jan. 8 the Stockton Lantern Festival will hold a Sensory Friendly Night. This night is "to be sensitive and inclusive for those on the autism spectrum as well as individuals with sensitivity issues or developmental delays," Visit Stockton website states.

"Follow the footsteps of an 8-year-old boy named Koda to take on an exciting adventure to the deep woods of Caballococha, Peru," the Stockton Live website states. "The lines of reality and imagination start to blur as you weave through the forest."

Tickets are now on sale on Ticketmaster starting at $20 for adults and $16 for children ages 2 to 12. Prices are lower from Monday through Thursday. On Friday through Sunday, ticket prices are $25 for adults and $21 for children.

Stockton Kings vs Iowa Wolves

Spend your Friday night at the Stockton Kings vs Iowa Wolves game on Friday, Jan. 12. The NBA G League team is back for another season with the first home game of the year.

Mata'irea Polynesian Culture Preservation Crab Feed

The Tahitian dance group Mata'irea Polynesian Culture Preservation's 12th Annual Crab Feed will be taking place on Saturday, Jan. 13 from 5-9 p.m. at the San Joaquin County Fairgrounds.

A fundraiser with Tahitian dance performances as you enjoy some crab.

2nd Saturdays for Families at the Haggin Museum

The Haggin Museum is hosting its Second Saturday for Families event of paper lanterns on Saturday, Jan. 13. The Second Saturday for Families events are for children ages 5-12 featuring hands-on events. Some activities may include art or interactive projects and museum events.

While reservations are not required seating is available on a first come-first served basis, their website states. Materials and activities are free with regular admission to the Haggin Museum. This Saturday children can learn how to make paper lanterns.

Tickets are $8 adults, $7 seniors and military, $5 youth 10-17 years old and students with ID. Admission is free for museum members and children under 10 years old.

If you love a good classic movie then head over to the Bob Hope Theatre for movie day on the silver screen.

Friends of the Fox Classic Movie series presents "Back to the Future II," a 1989 science fiction and adventure film starring Michale J. Fox, Christopher Lloyd and Lea Thompson.

Doors will open at 1 p.m. Dave Moreno will be at the Mighty Morton organ at 1:30 p.m. Sunday and master of ceremonies Matías Bombal will kick off the movie at 2 p.m. Tickets are $3 for children 4-year-old to 12-years-old. General admission is $9.

Stockton Kings vs Long Island Nets

Stage Kiss at Stockton Civic Theatre

Head over to the Stockton Civic Theatre for "Stage Kiss," from Thursday, Jan. 18 to Sunday, Feb. 4.

"In this play-within-a-play, two actors with a history are thrown together as romantic leads in a forgotten 1930s melodrama. They quickly lose touch with reality as the story onstage follows them offstage," the Visit Stockton website states. "Stage Kiss captures Sarah Ruhl’s singular voice; it is a charming tale about what happens when lovers share a stage kiss—or when actors share a real one."

Stockton Host Lions 26th Annual Super Crab Bowl

The 26th Annual Super Crab Bowl is back this January for an evening of food and entertainment.

Proceeds from the crab bowl will benefit the Stockton Host Lions Club Scholarship Foundation and other charitable projects. Tickets start at $75.
