Civic Symphony of Green Bay to play free concert of patriotic and flight-themed music at airport on Fourth of July weekend

ASHWAUBENON - Where better to hear an arrangement of "Danger Zone" from "Top Gun" than in an airport hangar on Fourth of July weekend?

Civic Symphony of Green Bay will perform a free concert of flight-themed and patriotic music at 3 p.m. Saturday in the Jet Air Group Hangar, 1921 Airport Drive, at Green Bay Austin Straubel International Airport.

The symphony, under the direction of Seong-Kyung Graham, will be joined by guest vocalists Darren and Shelly Johnson of Daddy D Productions for "CSGB @ GRB (an orchestra concert at the airport)." The program is as follows:

  • "Liberty Fanfare"

  • "Band of Brothers Suite"

  • "Armed Forces Salute"

  • "Danger Zone" from "Top Gun"

  • "Fly Me to the Moon"

  • "Over the Rainbow"

  • "Flight of the Bumblebee"

  • "America the Beautiful"

  • "Rocky Broadway"

  • "Washington Post"

  • "Nimbus 2000" from "Harry Potter & the Sorcerer’s Stone Suite"

  • "Summer Wind"

  • "Come Fly with Me"

  • Selections from "E.T."

  • "Battle Hymn of the Republic"

  • "Stars and Stripes Forever"

The family friendly event, hosted by Jet Air and Pilotsmith Flight School, will include all kinds of activities in advance of the concert.

There will be face painting, a craft project to make a kazoo out of frozen pop sticks, a musical instrument "petting zoo" and a full-motion flight simulator. A Dornier historic plane, a Cirrus SR20, the Civil Air Patrol’s 182T and an Enstrom helicopter will be among the aircraft on display, with pilots on hand to answer questions.

Philly & York and Taqueria Maldonado's food trucks will have lunch available for purchase. No food or drink carry-ins.

Doors open at noon.

The hangar does not have seating, so concertgoers should bring their own lawn chairs.

Parking will be offsite at Oneida Casino lot at 2170 Airport Drive, where a shuttle will bring people to the hangar and back after the concert ends around 4:30 p.m. No parking along the road or in other area business lots. Austin Straubel's long-term parking will be open. Normal rates apply and it's a ¾-mile walk to the concert. Limited handicap parking will be available at the hangar.

The event will go on rain or shine, unless severe weather. No pets allowed.

The concert is free, but donations will be accepted. Civic Symphony of Green Bay is made up of volunteer and professional musicians of all ages. It's in its 29th season.
