Netflix has finally unveiled the first trailer for City Hunter, a live-action adaptation of Tsukasa Hojo’s classic manga of the same name. Set to hit the streamer on April 25, the trailer sees Ryohei Suzuki as the exceptional marksman Ryo Saeba with a contradicting demeanor.

Directed by Yuichi Satoh, based on a manga that has sold more than 50 million copies, the upcoming movie will see the “premier sweeper” navigating the gloomy depths of modern-day Shinjuku, Tokyo, while he tries to balance his rather different demeanor “with a fun personality.”

“An exceptional marksman and hopeless playboy, private eye Ryo Saeba reluctantly forms an alliance with his late partner’s sister to investigate his death,” the logline reads.

Weekly Shōnen Jump serialized the City Hunter manga back in 1986 and received an anime series adaptation back in 1987. Due to its success, Hojo’s best-selling work has spawned various adaptations — including spin-offs and television specials — and live-action adaptations across different countries, including South Korea, France, and Hong Kong. In 1993, Jackie Chan starred as Ryo Saeba in the Wong Jing-directed action comedy of the same name.

Who is in the cast of City Hunter?

In addition to Saeba, Misato Morita will be bringing heroine Kaori Makimura to life, while Masanobu Ando will play Hideyuki Makimura — Kaori’s brother and Ryo’s close friend and partner.

Per Netflix, Hideyuki is a retired detective, who still uses his acquired abilities to help Ryo on his high-octane adventures. Fumino Kimura, on the other hand, is set to play Metropolitan Police Department detective Saeko Nogami.

Satoh will direct the live-action adaptation based on a screenplay by Tatsuro Mishima. Producers are Keisuke Sanpei and Kosuke Oshida, with Shinichi Takahashi serving as the executive producer.

City Hunter premieres on April 25, exclusively on Netflix.
