It’s officially City Girl season. The Miami rap duo announced their upcoming album R.A.W., due on Oct. 20. Sharing a teaser on social media last week, JT and Yung Miami questioned, “What’s next?”

Their last album City On Lock was released three years ago. In the meantime, both have guested as featured artists with Usher, Summer Walker, Stunna Girl, and more, as well as dropped off a few standalone singles.

“In that time we’ve been thru so much,” wrote the City Girls on Instagram. As fans anticipate the new album, both women share excitement for R.A.W. to be released. Speaking with VIBE after an energetic listening session for the album on Wednesday night (Oct. 11), JT and Yung Miami both describe the work as “fun.

R.A.W. for me is whatever mood I am. So, right now, I’m a real a*s working woman, because I am here working with you,” detailed JT. “But when I get to my man, I’m going to turn into a real a*s whore. And then, the next day, I might be rude a*s witch [laughs]. Depends on whatever mood I’m in!”

The “No Bars” rapper continued to elaborate on how she hopes R.A.W. reflects the evolution from her past to her present.

“You have to try to expand the things that you talk about, your surroundings change. So, when your surroundings change, your music kind of change. And a lot of people be like, ‘Oh, we miss Period‘, [but] it’s like, I’m so far from Period, and I hope they hear that in music. I hope that they still see us as a representation of Black women, young Black women, fun Black women, ratchet Black women… all the Black women,” she said.

In a separate conversation, Yung Miami expanded on the goal set forth as the group created Raw.

“We just wanna show that we authentic, we ourselves, we raw,” shared the mother of two. “We just wanted to bring that City Girl energy, fun music, and just alter ego music for women. Raw, real-a*s women, real bi**hes. And that’s just what it is.”

She continued, “I hope that our fans will be able to see our growth. I hope that they’ll be able to see that we put our blood, sweat, and tears into this album. This album means so much to us. It’s been three years. This is our first real album since JT been home, and it’s a body of work.”
