Amazon's biggest foray into TV franchise-building so far has been 2023's Citadel, a big-budget spy series on Prime Video which introduced viewers to its world of warring intelligence agencies, backstabbing and explosive action.

While Citadel season 2 has been confirmed, Amazon has been close-lipped on details of this follow-up, despite releasing information on myriad Citadel spin-offs including Italian series Diana and Indian prequel Honey Bunny. At least two more spin-offs are on the way too!

But what about Citadel season 2, so we can continue to watch Mason Kane and Nadia Sinh rebuild the titular spy group and thwart their enemies? Well, you'll have to read on to find out. And if you haven't seen the show, here's how to watch Citadel.

Citadel season 2 release window

Amazon hasn't confirmed when Citadel season 2 will return, but it could be quite a way out still after its May 2023 renewal.

That's because the 2023 writers' strike apparently caused the release date of the season to be delayed, according to Variety. According to the publication, we'll have to wait until late 2024 or even early 2025 to see what happens next between Nadia Sinh, Mason Kane and Citadel.

Spin-off show Citadel: Diana will likely be out sooner, with a 2024 release window already confirmed.

Citadel season 2 trailer

As with the release date, there's no Citadel season 2 trailer so far (unless you count the entirety of season 1, which set up lots of plot elements).

However Citadel: Diana will be the next 'season' of Citadel-related antics, and that does have a trailer, which you can see below.

Citadel season 2 cast

While Prime Video hasn't confirmed who's returning for the second season of Citadel, it seems very likely that the main characters of the first season will be back, with almost all of them ending season one in one predicament or another:

  • Richard Madden as Mason Kane

  • Priyanka Chopra Jonas as Nadia Sinh

  • Stanley Tucci as Bernard Orlick

  • Lesley Manville as Dahlia Archer

  • Osy Ikhile as Carter Spence

  • Ashleigh Cummings as Abby Conroy

Several more important characters were shown in Citadel season 1 via flashbacks, with their current whereabouts not explored, so we could see more faces pop up too.

Citadel season 2 cast

Many Citadel spin-offs are in the works, and two have been officially confirmed: Diana and Honey Bunny.

Citadel: Diana

The first spin-off is Citadel: Diana, set in the Italian Alps, which will come out at some point in 2024 as per Amazon itself. A trailer was released and you can see this above.

Diana will apparently focus on the titular character, a female operator who goes on the run. Plot details are scarce right now, including what the hero has to do with Citadel itself, but presumably we'll find out before too long.

The second spin-off that we've heard about is Citadel: Honey Bunny, set in India in the 1990s, so presumably it'll act as a prequel that shows us more of what the Citadel organization was actually like.

Honey Bunny is a love story between the two titular agents (Samantha Ruth Prabhu as Honey and Varun Dhawan as Bunny). There's no word on when this will come out, but as its production took place between Diana and Citadel season 2, their releases will likely fall in that order too.

So what do we know about Citadel season 2?

Something that Amazon has shared about Citadel season 2 is who'll be creating it.

Series co-creator David Weil will work as the showrunner of the show, while Joe Russo, who was executive producer for the first season, will be directing every single episode.

Russo was one of the show's three co-creators, with brother Anthony being the third.

The brothers also directed The Gray Man, Cherry, Avengers: Infinity War and Endgame, Captain America: The Winter Soldier and Civil War, and many episodes of Arrested Development and Community.
