The supermodel famously starred in an iconic spot for the soda brand in 1992 that inspired several spin-offs through the years

Cindy Crawford made an ice-cold Pepsi look irresistible in her iconic 1992 commercial for the soda brand.

In honor of Pepsi's 125th anniversary this year, PEOPLE is taking a nostalgic look back at the spot, which featured Crawford doing what she does best — looking incredible — while popping open a can of Pepsi by her red Lamborghini at a gas station, as two awestruck young boys looked on.

And then came the memorable comment from one of the kids: "Is that a great new Pepsi can or what?" As it turned out, they were more mesmerized by Pepsi's new look than a supermodel in short-shorts.

The success of the commercial later inspired several spin-offs, including a 2002 version that saw Crawford, 57, returning to the very same gas station — only this time, things looked a bit different for her.

"Some things never change," she said, as the camera panned to a young boy watching her drink a Diet Pepsi before revealing that her sleek Lamborghini had been swapped for a more family-friendly SUV.

"And some things do," she continued, opening the car to reveal two children in carseats — played by Crawford's own daughter and son, Kaia and Presley.

A hilarious 2016 update of the ad featured James Corden portraying Crawford's role — though much less elegantly. The former late-night TV host, 45, spilled his Pepsi down his shirt and let out a loud burp.

In 2021, Crawford recreated the original 1992 commercial to raise money for cancer research. She slipped into the same white tank top and denim cut-off shorts to pose in front of the same gas station from all those years ago.

"We returned back to the original Halfway House from the famous @pepsi commercial I did in 1992 to recreate the moment (with a David Yarrow twist) in hopes of raising funds for the American Family Children’s Hospital in Madison Wisconsin where my brother was treated for leukemia," she explained on Instagram at the time, sharing that more than $1 million had already been raised.

This past August, Crawford recreated the ad yet again for a music video appearance for That Chick Angel's "One Margarita (Margarita Song) (Saucy Remix)" song. This time, in a fun twist, her Pepsi can was replaced by a margarita featuring tequila from husband Rande Gerber's brand, Casamigos.

"Gimme me a 'rita," she wrote alongside a sneak peek of the video.

Crawford reflected on the enduring popularity of her Pepsi commercial in a 2018 interview with PEOPLE, ahead of Super Bowl LII.

“This time of year, it always gets featured in the roundups of the Best Super Bowl Commercials ever, and every January I revisit my original Pepsi spot that I just love because the music was perfect and the little boys were perfect and it was just one of those commercials that everyone loved and it made people happy,” she said.

That same year, she took part in a Super Bowl ad as part of the “Pepsi Generations” campaign, which celebrated the brand's biggest pop culture moments from over the years. Her son Presley, who was 18 at the time, starred alongside her in the spot, making it a full circle moment for Crawford.

“To include now my next generation, Presley, just makes it that much more familial feeling,” she said. “I hope it gives people that warm, fuzzy feeling.”
