Jul. 13—HENDERSON — Cinderella's Fairy Godmother will sprinkle her magic in McGregor Hall Performing Arts Center later this month when the Henderson Rec Players present Rodgers and Hammerstein's "Cinderella" in five performances.

The production, directed by Jo Ellen Nowell, features a large-scale set, custom costumes, and accompaniment by a professional orchestra. Nowell also choreographed the production. The cast is made up of local and regional players — many of them familiar to Henderson theater goers, some of them new to McGregor Hall.

"This is a high octane cast," said Mark Hopper, musical director for the production and also operations director and board chairman for McGregor Hall and the Embassy Cultural Center Foundation. He pointed out that five of the cast members have theater degrees.

Felicity Mundy will create the role of Ella. Mundy, a native of Louisburg, is a rising sophomore at the University of the Arts in Philadelphia with a major in musical theater. No stranger to McGregor Hall, she previously appeared in local performances of "Godspell" and "A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum."

Musical numbers include "In My Own Little Corner," "Impossible; It's Possible," "Do I Love You Because You're Beautiful?" and more.

Performances are scheduled for the following dates and time: July 22 at 7:30 p.m., July 23 at 2 p.m., July 29 at 2 and 7:30 p.m., and July 30 at 2 p.m.

Tickets are $21.35. They may be purchased online at https://www.etix.com/ticket/v/11557 or at the McGregor Hall box office at 201 Breckenridge Street in Henderson. Box office hours are 1:30 to 5:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. Telephone: 252-598-0662.

A special event for young people is Cinderella's Children's Celebration, which will take place at 11:30 on the morning of July 29 in the gallery lobby of McGregor Hall. Cinderella, her Fairy Godmother and other cast members will meet children for a morning of music, treats and photos with Cinderella and other members of the cast.

Tickets are $37.36 and required for each parent or guardian and child attending. The ticket also includes admission to the 2 p.m. matinee performance of "Cinderella" that afternoon.

Cinderella's Children's Celebration is sponsored by Chick-fil-A of Henderson,

Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein II wrote the musical version of "Cinderella" for Julie Andrews. It first ran on American television in 1957 and later adapted for the stage.
