Cincinnati defensive back Kyriq McDonald was carted off the field Saturday at Ohio State after he collapsed during a play.

McDonald, an Alabama transfer, went down in the second quarter just after an Ohio State offensive play began. He was immediately tended to by medical staff, who brought out a stretcher as a precaution.

Thankfully McDonald didn’t need it. He was awake and alert and talking to Cincinnati’s training staff as he was sitting up in the back of the cart.

ESPN’s Allison Williams said on the game broadcast that she spoke to McDonald’s mother during the injury timeout and McDonald’s mother said her son has a history of seizures. Williams also reported that McDonald would be taken to a nearby hospital as a precaution and was able to walk with assistance after he was taken off the field.

McDonald was a freshman when Alabama played Georgia in the national championship game in 2018. He collapsed on the sidelines in that game and received immediate medical attention. He was also quickly awake and alert after that episode.
