“There’s a new hope and I have faith we are going to get better. There has been so much conversation around what has been happening, and I think it’s very necessary during these times. I believe it’s also going to be a part of contributing to us getting better as a whole, as people and as a world,” the mother of three, businesswoman and wife of Seattle Seahawks star quarterback Russell Wilson told Yahoo Finance.
Ciara — full name Ciara Princess Wilson — was overcome with emotion during our Zoom call when discussing Vice President Kamala Harris.
“I think about our first ever female vice president, a Black woman. There is so much inspiration in that and so it brings you so much joy. It just makes you excited about what's to come, because even that within itself symbolizes how far we've come,” Ciara said.
The Biden administration has wasted no time in trying to give hope to a divided country and undue many of the controversial policies of the Trump administration.
President Biden signed 30 executive orders in his first three days in office. Some of the more headline grabbing ones included stopping funding on Trump’s precious border wall along Mexico, reversing a travel ban targeting mostly Muslim nations, imposing a mask mandate on federal property and jump starting the production of COVID-19 supplies. The president has also laid the groundwork for a $15 an hour minimum wage.
These are in addition to Biden unveiling a $1.9 trillion fiscal stimulus proposal just before being sworn in as president. Biden is expected to unveil a new infrastructure plan within the next month.
As for Ciara, she is staying busy during the pandemic by launching a new fashion house with former Lululemon CEO Christine Day.
Dubbed The House of LR&C (love, respect and care), it has launched with a sustainable streetwear brand for men and women called Human Nation. The assortments resemble fashion athleisure (so think Lululemon meets Supreme, but at more attainable price points) and are consciously sourced. Products are made from eco-friendly organic cotton at manufacturing facilities that adhere to the sustainability goals developed by the United Nations. They are also 100% recyclable.
Similar to Ciara, her friend and business partner Day is hopeful the new administration will get things in order. That goes for business leaders, too.
“I think what I would hope for is that we're going to enter a phase of what I would call civil disagreement. And I think business's role is to support this new administration and president. We have a responsibility to thread the needle between the things that society is concerned about such as the environment, racial divides, the inequity that we see in income levels, and rebuilding infrastructure,” Day told Yahoo Finance. “So I think business has to step up and stop being so entrenched in whether it's protectionism or just only focusing on profits and not the environment.”
