Chucky speaks! Hear Mark Hamill's creepy doll voice in rebooted 'Child's Play' trailer

Days after Child’s Play fans got their first look at the all-new Chucky, the killer toy makes his voice heard in the latest trailer for the upcoming remake of the 1988 horror hit. And boy, does he sound like a real Joker. Mark Hamill — who established himself as the definitive voice of the Clown Prince of Crime on Batman: The Animated Series — is taking over the role made by famous by Brad Dourif in the original film and its many sequels. (In fact, Dourif still voices Chucky in a separate series of movies overseen by Child’s Play creator Don Mancini, who has been vocal about his displeasure with the reboot.) Hamill’s voice is only heard briefly at the very end of this trailer, when Chucky bids his young owner, Andy (Gabriel Bateman), a sinister good night. But that single line reading is enough to remind us why he’s a voiceover, as well as a Jedi, master.

Hamill’s social media following are all-in on his latest role.

That said, Dourif remains very popular among Chucky purists. And those collectors are definitely noting some vocal similarities between the two.

Besides Chucky’s new voice, the trailer also reveals that he’s found new ways of racking up the body count in his current form. In addition to the ever-popular, always-effective butcher’s knife, the bloody-minded toy also makes inventive use of lawn mowers, automated cars and low-flying drones. That ability comes courtesy of a 21st century upgrade that’s been made to the Buddi toy line: these dolls can sync up and control all the smart devices in your home. Yes, but can he also do Force projections?

Child’s Play will slay the box office on June 21
