On October 4, 2023, the third season of “Chucky” premiered on Syfy and the USA Network to predominantly positive reviews from critics. In this cycle of the series, which is a continuation of the “Child’s Play” franchise, the murderous doll discovers a new friend “’til the end” that just happens to live in the White House. Devon Sawa, who returns each season as a new character, plays President James Collins. The first episode titled “Murder at 1600” kicks off the hilarious horror show and can be streamed on Peacock.

The ensemble cast includes Jennifer Tilly reprising the role of Tiffany Valentine from the film franchise, as well as Zackary Arthur, Björgvin Arnarson, Alyvia Alyn Lind, Brad Dourif and Fiona Dourif. Read our full review round up below.

Jovy Skol of Nightmarish Conjurings states, “Jennifer Tilly has become the standout in the franchise since she first showed up in ‘Bride of Chucky’ and continues to deliver an over-the-top performance here. What solidifies her as a horror icon is that she’s clearly having a f*** ton of fun playing Tiffany and making fun of herself in this fictional alternative reality. Anyone who has followed Tilly’s career will enjoy the many jabs to her filmography here (it’s more than just ‘Bound’). The people behind ‘CHUCKY’ are smart to keep her around and keep her as part of a central narrative.”

Fred Topel of United Press International writes, “Chucky does come to life on camera with the first graphic kill in the season premiere, and another in the second episode. Chucky’s always got a sense of humor and one liners about his murders, and now uses White House accouterments as implements of death.” Topel adds, “Amid all the murder, Chucky still manages to deal with relevant themes. Jake and Devon are navigating their first physical relationships, and Lexy soon discovers the teenage romance she’s been missing out on by focusing on Chucky. Henry also is dealing with a similar trauma to Andy in the original film. Chucky preyed upon Andy having lost his father, and now Chucky preys on the First Family’s personal tragedy.”

The team at Josh at the Movies notes, “Sorry Jack, Chucky’s back! Chucky returns for round three, albeit in a truncated, four-episode part one rather than a full course. Showrunner Don Mancini, overlord of all things Chucky, takes the series in a surprising direction. The killer doll at this point has been involved in all manner of body swaps, horrifying deaths, army camp, a toy factory, Hollywood, and last season’s Incarnate Lord Christian school. Now, his sights are set on the most evil house in America: the White House. Shifting to a new location, Chucky stays fresh while evoking the feel of the first ‘Child’s Play,’ as another impressionable young child is brought into the fray. The soap-operatic boldness of season two takes a backseat to Chucky’s pared down, back-to-basics approach. Served up like a fresh plate of Swedish meatballs, season three of ‘Chucky’ is sure to satiate franchise fans, even if it saves the main course for part two.”

Kristen Maldonado of Pop Culture Planet says, “While they play a little too much into cameos and don’t go as big as I hoped with the kills, Chucky brings even more campy, meta, and over the top humor. Just by being at the White House, Chucky could have the potential to take over the whole world!” Maldonado continues, “Move over M3GAN, Chucky is back and headed to the White House! With Chucky’s unending thirst for power, he has settled in with America’s First family inside the White House. What does he want? And how can Jake (Zackary Arthur), Devon (Bjorgvin Arnarson), and Lexy (Alyvia Alyn Lind) possibly get to him inside world’s most secure building? Meanwhile, the police are closing in on Tiffany for ‘Jennifer Tilly’s’ murderous rampage last season.”
