“The only time I’ve ever been on this stage before was accepting one of these for Heath Ledger,” said Nolan of his late Dark Knight star. He went on to reference the difficult circumstances around Ledger’s death before the film was released.

“I thought it would be simpler accepting this for myself.” But as a director, Nolan said, there are so many people to thank. He began with his cast Cillian Murphy, Florence Pugh and Robert Downey Jr. and ended with Universal’s Donna Langley and his wife, Emma Thomas.

Globes host Jo Koy took a shot at Oppenheimer‘s length in his monologue. The comic said he started watching the movie on New Year’s Eve, with a resolution to finish it in 2025.
