Christine Baumgartner Is Taking This Major Life Step Amid Her Tumultuous Divorce From Kevin Costner

Christine Baumgartner hasn’t had an easy summer after battling estranged husband Kevin Costner, but she seems to be looking ahead to the future. She challenged the prenuptial agreement she signed in 2004 and fought for additional child support. Although the judge ruled in Costner’s favor and reduced it to $63,209 per month from the temporary child support of $129,000, Baumgartner is ready to take steps to move her career from inside the home to outside the home.

Baumgartner is currently renting a $40,000 per month Montecito home while raising her three teens from her marriage to Costner, Cayden, 16, Hayes, 14, and Grace, 13. She revealed some surprising news during the child support hearing that she is now investing in herself. “I will look into the steps I need to take and any schooling I need to do, and I will enter the workforce,” she said, via People.

She met the Oscar-winning actor on the golf course when she was only 18 and he was practicing his golf game for the movie, Tin Cup. They reunited six years later and began dating in 1999, eventually marrying in 2004. She didn’t have a chance to establish her career during that time, but she dabbled as a handbag designer before their children were born. “When I came up with some samples, I showed them to Kevin, and he said they were beautiful and amazing,” she recalled to the Denver Post in 2005 about her laptop covers and handbags. “He told me I should take it to the next step, and he’d help me. I’ve always loved fashion and style, and if you can mix it with function, it’s perfect.”

Her design talents may be resurrected in the next stage of her career or perhaps Baumgartner will discover a new passion through her schooling. Whatever she chooses with be a fresh chapter in her life once she finalizes her divorce from Costner, which is expected to see a second battle round in court in November.
