Christina Hendricks, Paddy Considine to Star in Chris O’Dowd Sky Series About Hollywood Production in Irish Village

Christina Hendricks (Mad Men) and Paddy Considine (House of the Dragon) will star in Small Town, Big Story, a new Sky original series created and directed by Chris O’Dowd (Moone Boy).

The six-part show focuses on an Irish village that gets taken over by a Hollywood production that throws the spotlight on an old secret.

“Every small town has a story to tell. Some don’t know how to keep a secret …,” reads a plot description, which promises “a warm and witty, very dramatic comedy.” It is set in the fictional town of Drumbán, “a rural village of rattled misfits on the border of Ireland and another world,” and explores “what happens when a Hollywood production rolls into town and throws the spotlight on a secret that’s been kept hidden since the eve of the millennium.”

Hendricks stars as Wendy Patterson, “a local girl done good as a hot-shot television producer,” who returns to her hometown from L.A. with a Hollywood production in tow. Considine stars as Drumbán’s local doctor and “pillar of the community,” Seamus Proctor.

Eileen Walsh (Catastrophe) plays Catherine Proctor, Seamus’ wife and local school teacher. Leia Murphy (Fair City) and David Rawle (Moone Boy) are on board to play siblings Joanne and Sonny Proctor. Patrick Martins (The Confessions of Frannie Langton), Evanne Kilgallon (Obituary), Andrew Bennett (The Quiet Girl), Ruth McCabe (Aisha) and David Wilmot (Station Eleven, The Alienist) are also part of the cast. Further casting is set to be announced later.

The series from Playground and FilmNation Entertainment has started filming on location in Ireland and is expected to debut on Sky and its streaming service Now in the U.K. Ireland during 2024.

Small Town, Big Story was commissioned by Sky Studios for Sky. Executive producers are Colin Callender and Scott Huff for Playground, Stefanie Berk and Milan Popelka for FilmNation Entertainment, and Alex Moody for Sky Studios. Hendricks and O’Dowd are executive producers, with Liz Gill serving as series producer. Directors include O’Dowd, Catherine Morshead, Mike Ahern and Enda Loughman. NBCUniversal Global Distribution is handling international sales of the series on behalf of Sky Studios.

“As an Equity production, filmed in Sky’s home market of the U.K. & Ireland, all cast agreements are compliant with SAG- AFTRA rules and conditions, and were contracted pre-strike,” Sky highlighted.
