Christina Grimmie’s autopsy report revealed that she died of gunshot wounds to the head and chest on June 10, 2016. She was 22 years old at the time of her death. Grimmie was 19 years old when she finished third in The Voice season 6 in 2014 as part of Adam Levine’s team.

According to ABC News, the shooting occurred at Orlando’s Plaza Live Theater shortly after Grimmie’s opening performance. The singer was signing autographs and selling merchandise after their show ended that night when a man walked up to her and shot her. Her brother tackled the shooter, later identified as Kevin James Loibl, to the ground. During the struggle, the suspect shot himself and was pronounced dead at the scene.

ID’s Death by Fame has previously chronicled Christina Grimmie’s case in an episode of their first season.

What did Christina Grimmie’s autopsy report reveal?

US Weekly revealed that Christina Grimmie’s autopsy report revealed she was shot twice – once in the head and a second time in the chest. The Orange County Medical Examiner’s Office’s report stated that Grimmie, 22, died as a “result of gunshot wounds to the head and chest. The manner of death is homicide.”

Grunge reported that per the LA Times, the shooter, Kevin James Loibl, walked up to Grimmie and shot her at 10:30 p.m. while she was signing autographs and selling merchandise. The shooting occurred at the end of the show when about 120 concertgoers gathered around the singer. Fans’ bags and backpacks were routinely examined while entering The Plaza Live, however, the venue lacked metal detectors. The 22-year-old died from her critical injuries at a local hospital after midnight.

According to ABC News, 27-year-old Loibl of St. Petersburg, had two handguns, loaded magazines, and a hunting knife on him. Orlando Police Department Chief John Mina said, “The suspect traveled to Orlando apparently to commit this crime.” Several of his coworkers later revealed that the shooter was supposedly obsessed with Grimmie.

What happened to Christina Grimmie’s shooter?

The ABC report stated that Christina Grimmie’s brother Marcus Grimmie tackled the shooter Kevin James Loibl to the ground after he fired the shots. “During the struggle, the suspect shot himself. The suspect was pronounced dead at the scene,” revealed Orlando Police Department public information officer Wanda Miglio.

Loibl died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Moreover, neither Christina Grimmie’s autopsy report nor the shooter’s showed any drugs in their systems at the time of death.

According to CNN, during an investigation, police learned that Loibl had been staying at the Courtyard by Marriott in Orlando. He had no luggage and paid $269 for the room. “There was no luggage; no personal belongings visible and the bed looked as if he slept on top of the covers,” said the police report.

However, Loibl’s friend of 15 years Cory Dennington told police that he had become fixated on Grimmie. He allegedly “watched everything having to do with her,” stated the same report.

Dennington believed that Loibl “spent most of his waking hours watching Christina on YouTube”. He also constantly “monitored Grimmie’s social media accounts”. “Despite following her on social media, Loibl himself did not have a Facebook, Twitter, or any other social media account,” the report added. Later, at least five of his coworkers told police that they knew of his obsession with the singer.

Death by Fame’s episode titled “Behind the Screen” revisited Christina Grimmie’s murder by an obsessed fan on ID last year.
