EXCLUSIVE: This Is Us lead Chrissy Metz has joined the cast of Bank of Dave: The Sequel, director Chris Foggins’ follow-up to his 2023 British feel-good comedy Bank of Dave, based on a true story.
Among those confirmed to return for the sequel, from the same creative team, are Rory Kinnear and Jo Hartley. Stay tuned for further castings to be announced imminently.

Hitting North American theaters last year via Samuel Goldwyn Films, Bank of Dave is inspired by the true story of Dave Fishwick (Kinnear), a self-made millionaire from the British town of Burnley. Pic chronicles the myriad challenges he faces in setting out to establish a community bank, with an eye toward bolstering small local businesses.
Picking up two years later, the sequel finds Dave taking on an even more dangerous and formidable opponent than the big banks — Payday Loan Companies. After recruiting Jessica (Metz), an American investigative reporter, and Oliver, a local Citizen’s Advice counsellor, to his cause, the group embarks on a journey that will eventually take them to the United States and help bring down an entire industry of predatory corporations.
Metz’s character Jessica is a brilliant, workaholic, investigative journalist specializing in the financial sector. Her life in New York revolves, exclusively, around her apartment and her office… so it’s with a degree of reluctance that she travels to Burnley, in the heart of England, in order to write a story about the victims of payday lenders.
A Tempo Production with Future Artists Entertainment in association with Ingenious Media and Automatic, the film entered production in the UK on Sunday. Written by Piers Ashworth and produced by Piers Tempest (Upgraded, Emily), its executive producers are Peter Touche, Jo Bamford, Dave Fishwick, Katie Lander, Matt Williams, Karl Hall, Michael Reutner, and Ashworth. Netflix holds rights to the film in the UK and Ireland, with WME Independent repping it for sales.
Best known for her breakout role as Kate Pearson on NBC’s intergenerational family drama This Is Us, which earned her nominations at the Emmys, Golden Globes, Critics’ Choice Awards and elsewhere, Metz prior to that put in appearances on such acclaimed series as American Horror Story, My Name Is Earl, and Superstore, to name a few.
Also previously seen in such films as Sierra Burgess Is a Loser, Fox’s faith-based drama Breakthrough and the indie Stay Awake, the actress is represented by CAA, Luber Roklin Entertainment, and attorney Steve Warren.
