Chrissy Metz is ready to tell the world about the abuse she suffered during her childhood and teenage years.

The "This Is Us" star doesn't hold back in her new memoir, "This Is Me," in which she divulges highly personal details about her life long before she would become a household name. Excerpts of the book were shared with People.

After Metz's father left the family when she was 8, her mother had a baby with a boyfriend who then left as well. That's when her mom would meet Trigger, who she wed in a local courthouse.

“I don’t remember why Trigger hit me the first time. He never punched my face. Just my body, the thing that offended him so much," Metz recalls. "He shoved me, slapped me, punched my arm. He would hit me if he thought I looked at him wrong. I remember being on the kitchen floor after he knocked me over, and I was begging to know what I did. He just shoved me hard with his foot."

Trigger had a fascination with her body, Metz said, staring at her when she was eating and joking about locking up the refrigerator. When she was 14, Trigger began forcing her to weigh herself.

“He sat in a chair next to the scale as I got on. ‘Good God almighty!’ he yelled every single time," she says. "The number then was about 140 or 130. Most of my friends weighed about ninety pounds. ‘Why are you getting fatter?’ he demanded."

She continues, "By then, the beating had escalated. One time he hit me, and I looked right in his face. If I had a gun, I thought, I would shoot you."

Despite their difficult history, the two have since reconciled, with Metz saying she loves and cares about him.
