Chris Rock's sexual harassment jokes reportedly don't go over well at comedy club
Chris Rock‘s new material isn’t working for some comedy patrons. The comedian recently tested out a few jokes in light of the recent sexual harassment scandals, and they fell flat at New York City’s Comedy Cellar, according to a report.
An audience told Page Six that Rock joked he won’t hire women anymore because he would need witnesses around him so he wouldn’t be accused of rape. “They cry rape because they want money,” Rock allegedly quipped.
Yahoo reached out to a rep for Rock for comment regarding the report, but did not hear back. However, people on social media posted about Rock’s surprise appearance at the venue.

While some fans were clearly delighted, Page Six alleges Rock exited his set to silence and that there were a few boos in the audience. Chris Rock isn’t the only star whose jokes in the wake of the Weinstein scandal have fallen flat.
Larry David got slammed on social media over the weekend for the references in his opening monologue on Saturday Night Live. James Corden also learned the lesson the hard way while hosting the amFAR gal last month.
“This is a beautiful room, this is a beautiful night here in L.A. It is so beautiful that Harvey Weinstein has already asked tonight up to his hotel room to give him a massage,” the Late Late Show host said, referencing the allegations against the movie mogul.
The audience loudly groaned and Corden ended up apologizing. “To be clear, sexual assault is no laughing matter. I was not trying to make light of Harvey’s inexcusable behavior, but to shame him, the abuser, not his victims. I am truly sorry for anyone offended, that was never my intention,” he tweeted after the backlash.
Rock is still on the road for his Total Blackout Tour, so it remains to be seen if the new material remains in rotation.
