When Chris Rock was announced to be starring in the latest Saw film, Spiral, some people were surprised. The general thought was: Really? A comedian?

Recently, Rock, his Spiral co-stars Marisol Nichols and Max Minghella, and the film's director, Darren Lynn Bousman, spoke with Yahoo Entertainment about the comedian's contributions.

"He would always give us different like takes and runs at the jokes," Bousman said. "And so in editing, you're looking at some of these scenes and you're like, 'this is hilarious, but I can't use it.' It will, it will kill that moment of the movie."
