Chris Rock, Fantasia, Wanda Sykes, Danielle Brooks Receive Their First Golden Globe Nominations

Today (Dec. 11), Cedric The Entertainer and Wilmer Valderrama have announced nominees for the 81st Annual Golden Globe Awards in 27 respective categories. Amongst names in the running are first-time Golden Globe nominees Fantasia Barrino, Wanda Sykes, Danielle Brooks, and Chris Rock.

The forthcoming 1985 remake, The Color Purple, is up for two noms including Best Performance by a Female Actor in a Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy (Barrino) and Best Performance by a Female Actor in a Supporting Role In Any Motion Picture (Brooks).

Comedian and actor, Chris Rock is up for Best Performance in Stand Up Comedy on Television for his special, Chris Rock: Selective Outrage, which is a new category introduced for 2024. Wanda Sykes is also nominated in the same category for Wanda Sykes: I’m An Entertainer, as well as Trevor Noah, who also has received his first-ever GG nomination for Trevor Noah: Where Was I.

Abbott Elementary has received two nominations for Best Television Series-Musical or Comedy and Best Performance by a Female Actor in a Television Series. The series and Quinta Brunson took home both awards earlier this year.

On the film side, Barbie leads with nine nominations as Oppenheimer follows with eight and Killers of Flower Moon with seven. Air is also up for two nominations as Spiderman: Across The Spider-verse has received three.

The 2024 Golden Globe Awards will air live at 8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT on CBS and stream on Paramount+.
