Chris Pratt 'thrilled' that James Gunn is directing Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3

Chris Pratt has expressed his delight that James Gunn will direct Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. The filmmaker was removed from the project by Disney last summer after right-wing pundits publicized old, offensive tweets by Gunn. In March of this year, Disney announced that it was reinstating Gunn as director on the superhero film. Gunn had directed both previous movies in the Guardians of the Galaxy franchise, which stars Pratt as the space adventurer Peter Quill.

“I was so thrilled, so excited,” Pratt told PEOPLE at the Avengers: Endgame premiere on Monday. “I think it’s the right move, I really stand behind it. I’m really proud of Disney for hiring James back and ultimately thrilled for not only us, but also for the fans. I think it’s going to wrap up the trilogy in the best way.”

Gunn will shoot Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 after directing the Suicide Squad sequel, The Suicide Squad.
