Chris Moon and supernatural fiction authors top Oshkosh's can't-miss events

OSHKOSH — There's more paranormal activity this week in Oshkosh. Psychic and paranormal investigator Chris Moon will visit The Grand Oshkosh. There's even a VIP investigation following the show.

Other events include an author meeting, fundraisers and a choral concert.

Here are your can't-miss events happening in the community this week.

1. Psychic Chris Moon makes visit to The Grand

Chris Moon, psychic medium and paranormal investigator, will visit The Grand Oshkosh Oct. 27. The presentation begins at 7:30 p.m. at 100 High Ave. An optional VIP investigation follows.

Moon was voted “Best Male Instrumental Transcommunication and Real Time Spirit Communication Researcher” in the world. He will talk about communication with “the other side” from the early days of seances to the modern times of Electronic Voice Phenomena (E.V.P.) and the Ghost Box.

He has appeared on truTV Network’s “Door to the Dead,” NBC’s “Today Show,” A&E Network’s “Paranormal State,” and the Travel Channel’s “Most Extreme Places to Stay” and “Ghost Adventures.”

2. Meet local authors and sample wines at Caramel Crisp

Meet Ursula Klein and Charlotte Greene, local writers of romantic and supernatural fiction, from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Oct. 26 at Caramel Crisp Corner, 200 City Center, Oshkosh.

Greene is the author of “Gnarled Hollow” and “From the Woods” — tales of paranormal adventure and mystery in settings that are off the beaten path. Magic and romance collide in Klein’s book, “Enchanted Autumn,” set in Salem, Massachusetts. She is the director of Women’s and Gender Studies at UW-Oshkosh.

Both authors are published by Bold Strokes Books, an independent publisher that offers a diverse collection of LGBTQ+ fiction.

Caramel Crisp also will offer tastings of its Halloween-themed wines at this author event.

3. Barn Bash fundraiser will benefit Beaming Inc.

The WOW-We Care Charity will host the sixth annual Barn Bash Oct. 27 at Brighton Acres, 4057 Fisk Ave., Oshkosh. The fundraiser is set to run 6 to 11 p.m.

The bash includes BBQ fare, live music by Nashville Pipeline and a silent auction.

Tickets are $75 each or $550 for a table of eight. Each ticket includes dinner, two drinks and a specialty dessert. Tickets can be purchased online at eventbrite.com.

This year, the fundraiser will benefit Beaming Inc., Neenah.

4. Chamber Singers to present fall concert Oct. 28

“Choral Couplings: The Power of Two” will be presented by Oshkosh Chamber Singers in its fall concert at 3 p.m. Oct. 28. The concert will be held at First Congregational Church, 137 Algoma Blvd., Oshkosh.

Pairs of varied compositions include works by Ola Gjeilo, Elaine Hagenberg, Stephen Foster, traditional spirituals, Eric Whitacre, Desmond Earley and Stephen Chatman.

The choir is directed by Herb Berendsen.

Tickets are $20 in advance for adults and $25 at the door, and $5 for students. They are available in advance from singers; at Heid Music, 1750 W. South Park Ave.; and at Gardina’s Wine Bar and Café, 448 N. Main St.

5. 'Boss of the Toss' cornhole tournament is Oct. 29

The Boss of the Toss Cornhole Tournament will be Oct. 29 at The Historic Oshkosh Masonic Temple, 204 Washington Ave. Proceeds benefit the Oshkosh Freemasons and the Masonic Temple.

The double-elimination tournament will begin at 10 a.m. Concessions will be available throughout the day.

Registration is $50 per team or $100 per team and includes a beer stein, hat and all you can drink. Register at eventbrite.com.

The tournament will use Scoreholio. Participants are asked download and sign up prior to the day of the event.
