Get out your dorky red glasses, Mindy Project fans, because you’re gonna want to read this.

Chris Messina, who played macho doctor Danny Castellano on the Fox/Hulu sitcom, tells our sister site Variety he “would love to come back” for the show’s sixth and final season.

“We haven’t talked about it yet,” he said when asked about a possible return. “I love those guys, though, and I would love to come back. It’s an amazing group of people. I love Mindy [Kaling]. I love that character that she wrote for me. That whole experience was like a master class in comedy, watching all of those actors. The writers were super gifted. I would love to come back. I’m not sure what’s going to happen yet, but I hope so.”

Messina was a series regular for Mindy‘s first four seasons, as Danny romanced and had a baby boy with Mindy Lahiri, played by star/creator Mindy Kaling. But he was officially demoted to recurring guest star last year, and hasn’t appeared on the show since October’s Season 5 premiere. The actor is plenty busy these days, though: He’s co-starring with Amy Adams in HBO’s upcoming adaptation of the Gillian Flynn thriller Sharp Objects.
