Chris McCumber Leaving Blumhouse TV

Blumhouse Television president Chris McCumber is leaving the company after three years.
The former USA Network executive is departing at the end of his contract. Jason Gold, currently president of production at Blumhouse TV, will take on the top job in the interim while the company seeks a permanent head.

Blumhouse TV is also undergoing a round of layoffs, with fewer than 10 people being let go.
“I want to thank Jason Blum and the entire team at Blumhouse for their incredible partnership and support,” McCumber said in a statement. “I’m so proud of what we accomplished in growing the business and producing a slate of terrific projects. Even as our industry continues to go through massive change, I truly believe that disruption breeds opportunity and growth — especially when it comes to great storytelling.”
McCumber joined Blumhouse Television in November 2020 after a long tenure at USA. During his time running the TV division at Jason Blum’s company, he oversaw a mix of scripted and unscripted series that includes NBC’s The Thing About Pam, Prime Video’s The Horror of Dolores Roach and Netflix’s Worst Roommate Ever, along with streaming feature films like the just-released Totally Killer and 2022’s Nanny. The company is also developing a series based on Patricia Cornwell’s Kay Scarpetta novels along with Jamie Lee Curtis’ Comet Films and a series with Kevin Bacon called The Bondsman.
Prior to joining Blumhouse, McCumber spent nearly two decades, presiding over its “Characters Welcome” era of original series that included Psych, Suits, Mr. Robot and others. He also oversaw the rebranding of Syfy and its push into adult animation and other genres.
Gold, meanwhile, is a former president of Blumhouse TV who segued to head of production when McCumber joined the company. Executive vp scripted programming and development Chris Dickie will assist him during the transition.

So as the television marketplace evolves, we’re evolving too so we can focus on our existing projects and continue to do what we do best, and that’s producing great programming responsibly,” said Blumhouse president Abhijay Prakash in a statement. “I want to thank Chris McCumber for his great leadership over the past three years, building the team and the business, including getting two of our largest series orders ever on the board, with The Bondsman and Scarpetta. He laid a great foundation for the company’s next phase. We are also very grateful to Jeremy Gold and Chris Dickie for stepping up to lead the division.”
