Chris Hemsworth first rose to prominence on TV in his native Australia before achieving worldwide fame. And while he's a household name around the globe today, the Furiosa star's Aussie roots run deep.

Hemsworth is back in Australia to visit some of his old stomping grounds, including the remote town of Gulin Gulin in the country's sparsely populated Northern Territory. Growing up in the Outback was a formative experience for Hemsworth, and getting to go back to the area where he grew up was an emotional experience.

"When I was younger my family and I lived in a remote community in the Northern Territory. Some of my earliest and happiest memories are from that time. Now, 35 years later I’ve been lucky enough to take a trip back there," he captioned a gallery of his homecoming. "I couldn’t be more grateful to the people of Gulin Gulin for welcoming us with such warmth and kindness. Much love and appreciation."

Hemsworth shared some touching photos from his visit on Instagram, which included meeting with the local Aboriginal community and receiving "welcome home" artwork from local children. He even shared a photo of himself as a child there over three decades ago amongst the other local kids.

Coming of age in such a faraway place played a critical role in how Hemsworth developed. "I grew up around buffaloes and crocodiles, not phones and video games," he recounted in a 2019 SilverKris interview. "Growing up in the Australian Outback, I had adventures and spent most of my time outside. It shaped me and I am very proud of that."

Given his apparent popularity in the area, perhaps Hemsworth should consider running for chief minister of the Northern Territory.
