If someone asked you about your first job, you might say a babysitter or paper-delivery person. But chances are you didn’t learn to earn a living the same way as one of Hollywood’s favorite Aussies. Because, apparently, Chris Hemsworth’s first job was cleaning breast pumps. Yes, you read that right — Thor himself used to scrub breast pumps and get paid for it, and we have so many questions.

How did this gem of an admission come out? On Wednesday night, Hemsworth made an appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, where he squared off against comedian Kumail Nanjiani in a round of “True Confessions.” You know how the game goes, right? The person in the proverbial hot seat picks an envelope with something about themselves written on a note inside. Then, the other two people at the table try to determine if that revelation is real or made up. Enter, Hemsworth. “My first job was cleaning out breast pumps,” he said, eliciting laughter from the audience and, well, bafflement from Fallon and Nanjiani.

In response to follow-up questions from his competitors, Hemsworth shared that he was 14 at the time of the multi-tasking gig. “It was repairing them as well, occasionally,” Hemsworth claimed. “Any pump, you know there’s a motor with a belt, like a rubber belt for suction.”

Understandably, Fallon and Nanjiani were skeptical. “Was this for human breasts or animal breasts?” the late-night host pressed, to which Hemsworth responded by explaining pharmacies would rent the breast pumps out to nursing mothers. “They’d come back covered in dry milk. I’d clean the dry milk,” he elaborated. At this point, Fallon is convinced Hemsworth has created an elaborate ruse. His theory? Hemsworth had previously shared that he had some experience working with animals. So, it was conceivable that, in order to make a believable lie, the Thor star based his lie on a truth. (He did move his family to a “farm setup” back in Australia in 2016.)

Nanjiani waffled momentarily — “I think it’s real… if it’s not, he’s a psychopath” — before agreeing with Fallon that Hemsworth was telling a lie. Except, he wasn’t. Hemsworth really did work for a company who manufactured appliances, including breast pumps. When the rented breast pumps were returned, Hemsworth would use a toothbrush, wipes and good old-fashioned elbow grease to get the pumps back to like-new condition.

As Fallon tried to wrap his brain about this fact about young Hemsworth, Nanjiani asked the questions we were all thinking: “Do the women who used these breast pumps now know that Chris Hemsworth once cleaned out their breast pumps? Can you buy them on eBay?” Inquiring minds need to know.
