Chris Hemsworth doesn’t love “Thor: Love and Thunder.”

In a new Vanity Fair profile, the Australian actor criticized his performance in the 2022 Marvel movie, his fourth outing as the hammer-wielding superhero Thor. And he’d like to do another “Thor” movie to make up for it.

“Love and Thunder” was the followup to 2017’s “Thor: Ragnarok,” which is widely considered to be the best “Thor” movie and one of the best Marvel movies overall. Both films are directed by Taika Waititi, who brought his playful, improv-heavy style of comedy to the franchise. But while “Ragnarok” is beloved for its sense of humor, Hemsworth thinks “Love and Thunder” took it too far.

“I got caught up in the improv and the wackiness, and I became a parody of myself,” Hemsworth said. “I didn’t stick the landing.” In the profile, he comes off as hard on himself and perpetually anxious about his career, and he expressed a desire to do another Thor movie, because he feels he owes it to the fans.

It’s not the first time Hemsworth has expressed disappointment with how “Love and Thunder” turned out. “I think we just had too much fun. It just became too silly,” Hemsworth told British GQ last year. “It’s always hard being in the center of it and having any real perspective… I love the process, it’s always a ride. But you just don’t know how people are going to respond.”

“Thor: Love and Thunder” was a box office success, grossing over $760 million worldwide, but is near the bottom of the list of Marvel movies in terms of critical acclaim.

Hemsworth will next be seen in “Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga” as the villain Dementus, rendered nearly unrecognizable by a prosthetic nose and brown contact lenses. The action film opens in theaters on May 24.
