Buckle up!

If you need a refresher on the whopping 45 years of shiny and chrome Mad Max history and lore ahead of Fury Road prequel Furiosa's debut, pump the brakes and look no further.

In the latest installment of Entertainment Weekly's Previously On YouTube video series, stars Chris Hemsworth and Anya Taylor-Joy take a drive down memory lane, recapping all the twists and turns from the franchise's first four installments leading up to Furiosa (in theaters May 24).

George Miller and Byron Kennedy co-created the series, beginning with 1979's Mad Max, followed by Mad Max 2: The Road Warrior (1981) and Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome (1985). The first three films featured a then-unknown Mel Gibson, who originated the titular role of Max Rockatansky, a police officer in a near-future Australia experiencing societal collapse due to depletion of resources, nuclear war, and ecocide. When a biker gang murders Max's wife and young son, he seeks revenge on all of them, gaining his moniker of "Mad" Max before ultimately setting out as the iconic lone road warrior seen in the later films.

Thirty years after Thunderdome, Miller, who directed or co-directed all of the movies in the franchise, ventured back into the Wasteland once more with 2015's Fury Road, which saw Tom Hardy take over as Max and introduced, as Hemsworth puts it, "the one-armed, shaved-head Imperator we all know and love" — Furiosa — played by Charlize Theron. The first film in the series to nab Oscar attention, winning six of its 10 nominations, Fury Road followed Furiosa as she rebelled against cult leader Immortan Joe. With his prized wives in tow, she fleed his Citadel in search of her beloved homeland, the Green Place of Many Mothers. After making the devastating discovery that her home no longer exists, she teamed with Max to defeat Joe and claim his Citadel and its resources.

Furiosa takes place roughly two decades before the events of Fury Road, from the titular character's childhood kidnapping to her blood-soaked quest for revenge against the man responsible for her mother's death, Dementus (Hemsworth). In addition to Taylor-Joy and Hemsworth, the film also stars Lachy Hulme, Charlee Fraser, Alyla Browne, and Tom Burke.
