Chris Cuomo repeatedly presses Julián Castro over Joe Biden 'cheap shot'

During the DNC Debate Post Analysis on CNN, Chris Cuomo took Julián Castro to task over a perceived slight toward Joe Biden during the debate. One of the main storylines to come out of the evening was Castro’s attack on Biden.

During a debate on health care policies, Castro interrupted Biden, saying “Are you forgetting what you said two minutes ago? Are you forgetting already what you said just two minutes ago?” Castro’s statement was immediately met with boos from the audience.

The irony of Castro’s question is that he was the one that misremembered what Biden had said. Castro claimed Biden’s plan would require people to actively opt in, instead of automatically opting in. However, Biden had said, ‘Anyone who can't afford it gets automatically enrolled in the Medicare-type option we have."

Cuomo told Castro, “You can disagree on healthcare [but] you made a crack at him not having a good memory about it.” Castro dismissed Cuomo’s assertion, saying “No I didn’t...I said, ‘Look, did you forget that two minutes ago you just said that you would have to buy in -” When Cuomo interrupted to ask, “Why do you think the crowd went ‘Oo?’ Why do you think they said that?”

As the interview went on, Cuomo appeared frustrated with Castro’s lack of contrition. “I hear you. This show's all about robust debate and it's also about decency. That seemed like a cheap shot.”

Cuomo ended the interview by asking Castro, “Because of how it resonated, do you think the VP is too old for the job?” Castro responded, “No. I've never said that. I believe that he's a fantastic candidate.”
